Are you looking to move, yet you’re a bit unsure on what to do with your utilities? No worries, we’ll help you figure that out, plus we’ll show you just how easy your transfer will be once you sign-up with Arcadia.
Electricity, gas, cable, and phone service are typically the services you’ll be transferring to your new home. Each one of those categories will probably have their own lead-time for disconnection and connection. To save yourself the hassle of dealing with any potential long lead-times, your best bet is to contact your utility, cable and phone company at least two weeks ahead of your move.
When you do speak with your utility company, you want to make sure to convey to them just how important it is for you to have your electricity up and running a day before you move into your new home.

Why? If you don’t, the first day in your new home will be one filled with zero heat and no AC. Considering you’d probably want to unpack that first day as much as possible – a house without power would present a nightmarish setting.
One important thing to consider is the final bill from your previous home. Unless your bills are attached to some form of autopay, you want to make sure your final invoice is accounted for and paid for. If your utility company or cable company doesn’t have your new address, and you fail to pay your final invoice due to miscommunication, you’ll be responsible for any late fees and credit hits which could have easily been avoided.
It’s imperative that you supply these companies with your new address, that way they can forward the final invoices to you. Besides making sure you get that final invoice, you’ll want to make sure you’re being billed the right amount. This means you’ll need your utility company to do a final reading of your gas, electricity and water. This way, you’ll know exactly how much your final invoice should be.
Thanks to today’s technology, transferring over utility services usually happens quickly. The same applies if you’re signed up with Arcadia. Since Arcadia is available across the United States, you don’t have to worry about losing your access to renewable energy.
How Arcadia helps you transfer your electric service.
Taking advantage of renewable energy resources and saving money should already be a part of your routines. If not, take a quick detour to our sign-up page – you’ll thank us after.
To transfer your Arcadia account to your new home, you first need to contact your utility company as we mentioned earlier. After they’ve been notified, all that’s left to do is fill out an Arcadia move request, which you’ll find under the ‘My Account’ tab on your Arcadia dashboard.
You’ll be asked a couple questions such as:
- Which account are you closing?
- When is service ending at your current address?
- When is service starting at your new address?
- What is your new service address?
- What is your new mailing address?
- Who is your new utility provider?
Make sure you have these answers on-hand so that you can quickly fill out the move request. After that’s done, all that’s left is for you to sit back and take comfort in knowing that Arcadia will ensure your electricity is supported by renewable sources.
