Navigating Multi-Factor Authentication on the Arcadia Platform

on September 10, 2025

In today's digital landscape, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a critical security measure. For many, however, it has also become a significant challenge, creating interruptions in data processing and adding complexity to workflows. We understand the frustration, which is why we've built a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to dealing with MFA directly into the Arcadia platform. This ensures that security and seamless data access can coexist.

The challenge with MFA is that it's not a one-size-fits-all problem. Different utilities have unique requirements and implementations, meaning a single solution won't work for everyone. We've streamlined our process and built several distinct avenues within the platform to meet your needs, no matter your provider's policy.

Our updated MFA solutions provide flexibility and control, all integrated into your existing workflow:

  • Token Submission: For providers that require it, you can now submit your MFA token directly into Arcadia’s platform. The platform passes this through to ensure a smooth data pipeline and saves the token to bypass future MFA requests, minimizing disruption for your team. For use cases requiring persistent access to new bills and interval data, Arcadia’s platform will notify you when MFA tokens need to be updated by the user. Arcadia’s connection to the data through an MFA-secured account typically lasts for multiple months, but can be as short as 20 minutes for some providers, which is why we’ve provided other options below.
  • MFA Opt-Out: Where a utility allows it, you can choose to opt out of MFA for your account. This provides an immediate solution for those who prioritize uninterrupted data access.
  • Guest Account Access: Utilities like PG&E now offer "guest account access," which allows us to have a dedicated username and password. This is an excellent option for those who want to provide us with third-party access without sharing their personal credentials.
  • Email Forwarding: For corporate customers connecting their own energy data, we've built a solution to handle situations where utilities send bills directly to you. Simply forward the email to us, and the platform can upload the data for processing.
  • Bill Uploader: Alternatively, in cases where we don't have credential-based access, customers can manually upload their bill.
