Ensure data continuity amid Energy Star uncertainty with Arcadia

on May 13, 2025

It has been widely reported that the EPA is planning to eliminate the Energy Star program. The shutdown would almost certainly impact the Energy Star Portfolio Manager (ESPM) tool, which is relied on by many C&I customers and local governments for building efficiency benchmarking and reporting.

This move is disappointing and short-sighted. We believe the Energy Star program provides many benefits to American consumers, businesses, and the environment — and we encourage the EPA to reconsider the planned shutdown.

In the wake of this political uncertainty, ESPM customers need a contingency plan in case their data access is removed, even on a temporary basis.

Maintain access to your utility data

Arcadia is here to help customers ensure the continuity of their ESPM data. We can transfer your existing ESPM data via API into the Arcadia Platform, and then automate the collection of all utility data on an ongoing basis — across electric, gas & water utilities — for your entire real estate portfolio.

Once onboarded to Arcadia, you’ll continue to have easy access to your data for reporting and benchmarking purposes. Like ESPM, the Arcadia Platform captures site characteristics in addition to utility usage data for more accurate benchmarking and analysis.

Go beyond reporting: a comprehensive platform for energy management

While ESPM is primarily a reporting and benchmarking tool, Arcadia provides AI-powered analytics, expert services, and partner integrations so you can get the most value from your utility data. We support enterprises with comprehensive energy management solutions — whether you’re looking to measure the impact of your energy efficiency upgrades, determine optimal solar & storage configurations, secure competitive retail energy supply, or integrate with leading carbon accounting platforms.

Take action today

Although the fate of ESPM is unclear right now, ESPM users should act now to ensure they don’t lose access to utility data. We recommend that you download your entire ESPM portfolio to Excel immediately, and frequently over the next several weeks, as a contingency in case ESPM is shut down with limited notice.

Then contact Arcadia today to learn how we can support you with a future-proof platform, free of political influence, that you can rely on for your strategic energy management needs.
